Do Chiropractors Treat Neck Pain?

This complementary and alternative health care profession was founded in 1985 by a magnetic healer called Daniel Palmer and then developed by his son B.J. Palmer. The term "Chiropractic" is derived from the Greek words "Kheir", meaning hand and "Practikos" meaning practical.

Chiropractor is based on the assumption that almost all health problems can be prevented or treated using adjustments of the spine or, if required, joints.

Palmer proposed that Vertical Subluxations were misaligned vertebrae which caused nerve compression that interfered with the transmission of what he called "Innate Intelligence". Thus, manipulation of the spine is the main technique in today's Chiropractic treatment or adjustment. The Treatment Chiropractors are the health care professionals who practice Chiropractics. They consider themselves part of "alternative health care". They can be divided into four main groups: traditional straights, objective straights, mixers and reforms. These groups work on basically the same fundamental philosophy, but different types of treatments. A good Chiropractor carries out the programme in the following way: He will begin his treatment by studying carefully your complete medical history, then examine your spine and joints and then carry out the spinal or joint adjustments. Severe neck pain can be treated by a chiropractor successfully since it involves diagnosing and treating mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system. The neck is that part of the body which supports the head. This means that it carries the load equivalent to a 10-13 lb. bowling ball. Hence, neck pain is actually considered as dis-ease arising from some problem with the muscles and bones of the spinal chord, shoulders and skull.   While treating neck pain, a Chiropractor gives special attention to structure and function of the spine and its effect on the nervous system. He checks the shape of the spinal curve, the freeness of nerve openings between each pair of spinal bones, balance of the head, level of the shoulders and other factors. He then creates a plan of specific Chiropractic adjustments to rectify the damages caused and to enhance smooth functioning. Results Thus, a Chiropractor does not treat the symptoms, but the cause is taken care of. He makes specific adjustments to improve the motion and position of spinal vertebrae and as a result, the neck pain vanishes.
